What is a Filter?
Filters serve as “traffic cops” within electronic networks. A filter may be installed in a broadcasting or other electrical network to direct the flow of information carried within specific electrical frequencies. There are many kinds of electronic filters and the type of filter used is determined by the specific job to be done. Filters may pass specific frequencies bearing desired information (a TV program, for example) block undesired frequencies (such as strong radar transmissions, for example) or detour certain frequencies to another part of the network and withhold it from all other parts of the network. While there are many “standard” filters, many filters must be custom designed for the specific customer application.
What role does C&E play?
C&E develops products peculiar to the operating needs of small, emerging niche markets within the general TV industry. An attempt is made to address these non-standard needs early, before volume demand attracts potential competition. To the extent that this strategy is successful with a given niche market, C&E becomes the product standard setter and enjoys simultaneous growth with its niche customers.
C&E Products and Services
The principal product line is electronic filters which perform a variety of different functions. Operational filters are essential component parts of all broadcast and reception systems. For example, a special operational filter called “a channel combiner” is required to connect several TV channel transmitters to the same antenna without mutual interference. Additionally, due to the proliferation of broadcast systems using the common airwaves, special filters are often required to suppress mutual off-air interference between broadcast systems. For example, special filters are often required to protect a Cable TV system from receiving unwanted and disruptive signals from strong FM stations, Paging services and Cellular and Mobile Radio installations.
Custom Filters With No Minimum Requirement
A substantial number of our customers’ orders call for a “non-catalog” filter to solve their unique problems. We are often able to modify an existing product to minimize delivery time. If this is not possible, we can design a custom filter for you by using our sophisticated design software, versatile model shop and modern test laboratory. Most of our catalog filters started out as our customers' “specials!” Your filter will be designed by engineers who understand your application and have originated many of the filters that are now considered standard equipment in the CATV industry.
If you are purchasing C&E products through a distributor, please contact us to be sure that they are authorized to sell our products.

Custom Design |
Our personal mission for over 30 years* has been to provide both STANDARD and SPECIAL passive RF filters and related devices in support of TV, digital and analog broadcast, reception and distribution in all its modes- worldwide. During that time, we’ve had the pleasure of seeing many of our “special” products become standard throughout the global broadcast industry.
*Founders Christopher Bostick, President/Owner, Emily Bostick, Chm./Owner and the late Glyn Bostick have been associated with Cable TV since its infancy. They have developed and introduced many products whose use is now considered standard. In 1992, they founded C&E to address the growing need for RF and Microwave filters.
